About

Honestly? I found Umamusume the same way most people do: as a joke.

It was 2024, and somebody posted a clip of Tokai Teio singing Ballin’ by Mustard and Roddy Ricch. I laughed, obviously. Then I got curious and started the anime, and a few episodes in I was like, wait, this is actually really good. I wanted to play the JP version back then, but it felt too late to start and, if I’m being real, I was a little lazy about it. Then Global dropped in 2025 and that was it. Hooked from day one. Every waking hour went into it: the game, the stories, the anime, the manga, the memes, the shitposts, the community. Just a regular fan doing regular fan stuff.

Then two things happened.

On Twitter I found someone doing deep dives into the stories. Super informal, kind of choppy, hyper-focused on whichever girl had their attention that week. One of them was about Mejiro Ramonu, and how she’s nothing like the cold, untouchable girl most people take her for. I read it and thought, hold on, that’s brilliant. I want to do this.

And on TikTok I saw a clip of Daitaku Helios screaming into the stump at Tracen, the old tree stump everyone goes to at night to let out whatever they can’t say to anyone else. That’s when it really hit me. This isn’t just a cute idol anime about horsegirls racing. These stories go into real, heavy stuff, and they mean it. The anime gets filed under sports, but it’s the kind of sports story that actually carries weight.

The stump.

Every one of these girls is built on a real horse: a real life, a real record, sometimes a real death. The writers kept all of it in, even the parts that hurt.

The Greeks had a word for that moment, anagnorisis: when you finally recognize what was in front of you the whole time. Me, I had a line for it as a kid, courtesy of Optimus Prime. There’s more than meets the eye.

What this is

It’s just me, writing character studies. One girl at a time, as deep as I can go.

Everything comes from the original Japanese: character stories, support card stories, the career scenario, home-screen lines, plus the real horse behind each girl. The Japanese is the real text. My English is a working translation, and I treat it that way. These run long because I’d rather follow a character all the way down than write something short and safe.

Why? Because the people who wrote these girls took them seriously, and I want to take them just as seriously.

Where to start

Wherever you want. Seriously. Whoever already has your heart, start there. Your oshi, the girl you just pulled, the one who made you cry. You already have your beginning.

Spoilers

These are complete. Full stories, endings included. If you’d rather meet a girl in-game first, go do that and come back after.

Pace

I’m a student, and this runs alongside uni, a job, and a bunch of other things. Life’s getting a lot busier, so expect roughly one new study a month. Some will take longer, and I’d rather post something with depth than something on time.

Tell me I’m wrong

I’m not a native Japanese speaker, and I really care about getting these right. If you spot a mistranslation, or you read a girl differently than I did, the feedback form at the bottom of every study comes straight to me. I read all of it. Yes, including the parts where you think I’m wrong.
